Role Summary – Senior Mechanical Engineer
The role requires both hands-on mechanical knowledge and the ability to translate technical problems into clear, structured explanations—often across cultural and linguistic barriers.
The position demands someone who can see the broader picture, analyze root causes, and communicate findings effectively to internal teams and global counterparts. The candidate will support continuous improvement, drive problem-solving activities, and may oversee junior engineers or technicians to ensure project execution meets Viavi’s high standards.
Key Responsibilities

Diagnose and analyze complex mechanical issues in optical/electronic manufacturing processes.

Clearly communicate technical findings and corrective actions to cross-functional teams and international partners.

Collaborate closely with production, manufacturing engineering, and global R&D teams.

Drive root cause analysis (RCA), define preventive measures, and ensure systematic problem resolution.

Manage or mentor team members to align work quality and efficiency with company goals.

Contribute to continuous improvement projects focusing on yield, reliability, and equipment performance.

Document, present, and track issue reports and corrective action progress.
Requirements

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

Minimum 7 years of experience in mechanical or manufacturing engineering, preferably in optical, precision, or electronics manufacturing environments.

Proven management or team leadership experience.

Strong English communication skills (spoken and written) — capable of “painting a picture with words” to clearly explain mechanical issues.

Excellent analytical thinking, structured problem-solving, and systematic approach.

Hands-on experience in mechanical design, assembly process, or failure analysis is highly preferred.
